Candidates for Park District Board

 

MARY ANN CHAMBERS

Mary Ann Chambers grew up in Northbrook and attended the University of Illinois and majored in Agronomy. She raised her family of three children, who are now adults, in Northbrook. Mary Ann is semi-retired. She currently serves as a Trustee for the Illinois Association of Park Districts and as an incumbent Northbrook Park District Commissioner. She has held leadership positions on the Board including serving as Vice President and President, as well as a mentor to new Commissioners. Mary Ann’s parents were great advocates for the Northbrook Park District and instilled in her a deep commitment to community service. Mary Ann volunteers in various organizations throughout Northbrook and it provides her with a meaningful opportunity to give back to the community that gave so much to three generations of the Chambers family.

 

EDWARD CHAO

Edward has been a Northbrook resident for nine years. He was born and raised in Canada and is of Chinese descent. He currently works as an IT Manager for Exelon Corporation and is President of Exelon’s Asian American Employee Resource Group. He holds an undergrad degree in Engineering and a graduate Business degree from Northwestern University. Edward has coached Park District soccer and basketball and is a volunteer with the Northbrook Bluehawks Hockey Club. He and his wife have three kids, ages 11, 9 and 5. His family is active in hockey, skating, soccer and tennis and are regular (daily) users of West Park and Northbrook Sports Center. Growing up, some of Edward’s fondest memories and greatest influences came from participating in sports. He is a firm believer in the value and importance of physical activity for the development of our children and for adults in maintaining physical and mental health. He has thoroughly enjoyed coaching his children’s Park District soccer and basketball teams and seeing kids learn and grow to love a sport. Edward has served as a church board member for over a decade and is looking forward to serving his community.

 

BEVERLY KUMAR

Beverly Kumar’s professional background is in Corporate Learning and Development. The past 6yrs she has served on the boards of several non-for-profits, as a board member and as a volunteer team member.

Her past and current responsibilities include the areas of: executive oversight, governance, compliance, communications, development, curriculum and content design among others.

These collected learnings and experience, along with applied best practices, could be useful in her new role on the park district board in the areas of: identifying budget priorities, communication with stakeholders, community engagement and building specific programs.

Beverly, her husband Sanjeev and their rescue fur-baby Dorie moved to Illinois from Tennessee in 2017. They chose to live in the area for the excellent parks and facilities that Northbrook has to offer its residents. The family is proud to be part of a community that promotes participation, inclusiveness and maintains diversity, and they make it a priority to participate in various ways.

She is passionate about giving back, and would consider it an honor to serve her local community if elected to this position on the park district board.

 

DAVID SILVERMAN

David Silverman is a 21 year resident of Northbrook. He and his wife, Rachel, raised three children here, all graduates of GBN. Professionally, David is a partner at the law firm, Ancel Glink. He specializes in local government, land use, and economic development law. His law firm represents park districts and other units of local government, in Illinois. Ancel Glink is very involved with and has a long standing relationship with the Illinois Association of Park Districts. David understands his role will be as a park district commissioner and not as a park district attorney. David’s experience as a local government attorney will inform his service as a park district commissioner. David is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, and prior to his career as an attorney was a practicing planner, first in Detroit and then Chicago. David’s professional experience as a practicing planner, gives him a significant appreciation for the importance of parks as community resources, but also as opportunities to enhance neighborhood amenities and overall community livability. David enjoys outdoor pursuits including hiking, golfing, sailing and playing tennis.
