FAQs
What is the Northbrook Caucus?
The Northbrook Caucus is a non-partisan volunteer organization comprised of Northbrook residents who recruit, interview, and endorse candidates for Village Offices. The Caucus forms every other year to promote civic participation and competition for elected offices that otherwise may be uncontested or even unfilled.
The Northbrook Caucus process and its endorsements do not constitute the final outcome of the municipal elections. Candidates endorsed by the Caucus this year will run for election in April 2023.
Who can join the Northbrook Caucus?
All Northbrook registered voters are welcome and encouraged to participate! There are several avenues for volunteering:
Helping the Caucus organize and manage its operations (e.g., Website, FAQs, fundraising)
Serving on a Caucus subcommittee to interview candidates
Participating in Northbrook Caucus Town Hall meetings
Supporting candidates (e.g., facilitating opportunities for candidates to meet the community, posting lawn signs, providing support through social media)
Who leads the Northbrook Caucus?
The 2024 Northbrook Caucus Leadership team includes:
Jennifer Saperstein, Chair of the Northbrook Caucus
Herbert Brenner, Chair of the Village Subcommittee
Kimberly Zlatin, Chair of the School District 27 Subcommittee
Jonathan Maer, Chair of the School District 28 Subcommittee
Daniel Rench, Chair of the Library Subcommittee
Lorna Cohen, Co-Chair of the Parks Subcommittee
Jennifer Pfeifer, Co-Chair of the Parks Subcommittee
How are screening committees (subcommittees) chosen?
In August, the Caucus sent out a call for volunteers and committee participants were selected randomly, using a spreadsheet and a random number generator. The Northbrook Caucus ensures Trustee, Library, and Park subcommittees include geographic representation across the Village.
This year, 39 volunteers were offered spots on subcommittees.
By what rules does the Caucus operate?
