Candidates for Village Board of Trustees

JOHANNAH HEBL

I have been a resident of Northbrook for 18 years. I am currently a managing partner at Matlin Law Group in Northbrook with a focus on estate planning and trust administration. I have served on the stormwater commission, plan commission and currently am serving as a Village Trustee. In addition to my Village experience, I have served as the Northbrook Junior High PTO president, a Northbrook 4th of July Committee member, t-ball coach and basketball coach. I have been married to David Krull for 22 years. Our son, Alex, is a sophomore at Marquette University and our daughter, Kate, is a freshman at the University of Illinois-Champaign-Urbana. In my spare time, I enjoy playing golf, pickleball or walking our two-year old dog, Bogey. It has been a privilege to serve as a Village Trustee. I appreciate the high standards demanded by our residents and would greatly appreciate the opportunity to serve our community in a 2nd term.

ROBERT ISRAEL

I have been an elected Trustee to the Village of Northbrook since 2011. During my tenure as a trustee I have served in varying roles including: Chair of the Administration and Finance, Public Works, Community and Sustainability, and Ad Hoc Labor Committees. As a trustee, I promoted the development of the adopted Climate Action Plan and the Stormwater Management Plan, along with development of enterprise funds to be used for flood impact reduction in sensitive areas of the Village. I have also facilitated the Joint Sustainability Plan developed with the Northbrook Park District and the Bike and Pedestrian Plan for the village. I also serve on the Northwest Municipal Conference Transportation Committee and on the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus Environmental Committee. Prior to serving as a Trustee I served on the Northbrook Stormwater Management Commission, Northbrook Bicycle Task Force, and the Northbrook Plan Advisory Committee.

For nearly 40 years, I was a civil engineer responsible for the design and construction of several billion dollars of infrastructure improvements on behalf of the Illinois Tollway, Illinois Department of Transportation, METRA, and City of Chicago, along with a number of other agencies. Most recently, I served as the Chief Civil Engineer of a mid-sized civil engineering firm in Chicago from 2011 to 2021, where I led a group of engineers and design professionals on work, including as the Lead Civil Engineer for the CTA Red-Purple Modernization project.

I am recently retired, many thanks to my wife Dr. Marla Israel, have two adult children who are fully launched, a dog named Layla, and about 40,000 bees who are still learning how to make honey.

I would be honored to serve another term to continue our Village progress as a vibrant and inviting community while maintaining our solid infrastructure and healthy financial footing.

I have lived in Northbrook for over 14 years, am married to Northbrook native, Ron Lambert, and together we raised our three daughters  (Maya, Abby and Morissa) in Northbrook, all of whom graduated from GBN.  In my professional life, I am an attorney and co-founder/partner of a Northbrook-based reproductive technology law firm formed in 2005.  I am deeply committed to volunteering and have years of non-profit board experience.   I am currently serving my first term as a Northbrook Village Trustee and have enjoyed the challenges of serving Northbrook as we navigated a global pandemic and passed a Climate Action Plan and an Inclusionary Affordable Housing Plan.  I believe in hard work, civic engagement and working collaboratively to achieve creative solutions to complex issues.  When I am not working or volunteering, I enjoy spending time with my family, practicing yoga and taking my puppy Keedy to the Northbrook Dog Park.  As a long-time Northbrook resident with dedicated years of civic service, I am excited about the opportunity to continue to serve the Northbrook community as a Village Trustee.
