Caucus 2022

The Northbrook Caucus, working to engage the community virtually to fill leadership roles, is no longer accepting applications from individuals interested in seeking endorsement for election to various village boards listed below.

The Caucus is a non-partisan, volunteer organization made up of Northbrook residents that for more than 65 years has recruited, interviewed, and endorsed candidates for election to municipal office.  Without the work of the Caucus promoting civic engagement and participation, elected offices in Northbrook may otherwise be uncontested or even unfilled.

The Caucus Steering Committee has been meeting and planning for several months and is prepared to fulfill its mission in a virtual environment that is safe, secure, and fair.

The offices for which the Caucus sought candidates for this cycle were the following:

  • Village Board

  • Library Board

  • Park District Board

  • District 27 School Board

  • District 28 School Board

Caucus Subcommittees for each of the governing bodies listed above, made up of community volunteers, interviewed the candidates virtually in October.  Once the interviews were complete, all of the Caucus Subcommittee members, collectively known as the Committee of the Whole, met on October 30, 2022 and presented their recommended candidates for endorsement.  All candidates who submitted an application and sat for an interview were invited to speak, and all residents were invited to attend.  The Committee of the Whole voted on the candidates for endorsement by the Northbrook Caucus.

The proposed slate was presented on November 20, 2022 at a Town Hall meeting open to all eligible Northbrook residents.  All slated candidates and any non-slated candidates who were nominated from the floor had the opportunity to speak. No non-slated candidates were nominated from the floor for this cycle.  Attendees then voted on whether to accept the Caucus’s endorsed slate of candidates and the formal endorsement by the Northbrook Caucus was announced.

The Northbrook Caucus process and its endorsements do not constitute the final outcome of the municipal elections.  Candidates endorsed by the Caucus at the Town Hall will run for election in April 2023.
